Driver & Production Assistant
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a dependable, curious, and hardworking Driver & Production Assistant to join our roasting and production team in Orange.
This is a hands-on position that moves between coffee production, order fulfillment, inventory, facility upkeep, and local deliveries. Some days may be spent primarily in the roastery weighing and packaging coffee. Other days may involve preparing orders, loading the van, and delivering coffee to our cafés and wholesale partners.
Prior coffee or production experience is helpful, but it isn’t required. What matters most is that you’re reliable, comfortable with physical work, able to learn new systems, and interested in understanding coffee and the roasting process.
POSITION DETAILS
Location: Orange, New Jersey
Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday during daytime hours, with some early mornings and occasional weekend work
Hours: 30–40 hours per week
Compensation: $18–$20 per hour, depending on experience
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Weigh, package, seal, label, and organize roasted coffee
- Pick and prepare wholesale, café, and online orders
- Load the company van and complete local deliveries safely and on schedule
- Represent Paper Plane warmly and professionally when interacting with customers and wholesale partners
- Receive and organize green coffee, packaging, and other incoming supplies
- Assist with inventory counts and keep production materials properly stocked
- Learn and use our labeling, tagging, inventory, and production-tracking systems
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized roasting facility
- Assist with routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and simple hands-on troubleshooting
- Support the roasting and production team wherever needed during busy periods
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Confidence driving and parking a company van
- Dependability, punctuality, and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- A friendly and professional approach when making deliveries
- The ability and willingness to learn new systems, processes, and equipment
- An interest in specialty coffee, roasting, and production
- Comfort working in an active, hands-on production environment
- Flexibility for occasional early mornings and weekend shifts
- Previous delivery, warehouse, fulfillment, or production experience is helpful, but not required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is an active and physical position. Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and move around the production facility for extended periods
- Perform repetitive tasks such as weighing, filling, sealing, labeling, and packing
- Regularly lift and carry boxes and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
- Safely help move heavier items and coffee bags weighing up to 100 pounds with another team member or appropriate equipment
- Load and unload orders from the company van

This position is an opportunity to learn how specialty coffee moves through a working roastery, from green coffee and roasting to packaging, quality control, fulfillment, and delivery.
